Prosody Exercise Reflection 1
I think I have certainly made some progress towards my goal of developing a Japanese accent. After working on the PE exercises I am more conscious of changes in pitch and intonation - I think I have applied some of this already but my greatest improvement has simply been in recognizing these important details. I still sometimes make some rather basic mistakes like ending a sentence as if it were a question when it's just a statement, but there are also some other issues specific to words that I need to work out.
My reading speed has improved considerably - it's still something I need to work on, but I am a lot more comfortable reading passages of text in hiragana and katakana. This will remain as one of my goals for the next semester, as the introduction of kanji will present some new challenges.
I unfortunately did not schedule to meet with ひばた先生 as I previously intended, and I really need to do so as working on pronunciation outside of class and the assigned work is essential if I wish to work on my accent early on.
Thus I think it's fair to say that my goals for the next semester are fairly similar in that I wish to continue working on pronunciation and accent - kanji characters will introduce a new challenge so I will need to continue working on recognition and reading, and spend more time on that than I did this past semester.
